BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, stories of community spirit are beginning to rise up from neighborhoods throughout Kern County.

Some residents in Bakersfield are writing positive messages in chalk on their sidewalks. These images are part of the Chalk the Walk project.

"One of the pieces that I saw, I was jut like wow. Again, this is amazing, this is inspiring, this is exactly what the world needs: hope, love and to come together to support one another through this time," said Lisa Nafus, a Southwest Bakersfield resident.
