BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — According to CHP, the I-5 freeway in both northbound and southbound directions have reopened.
On Monday evening, drivers near Castaic for Northbound drivers and Grapevine Road for those heading Southbound were stuck on the I-5 freeway for over an hour.
Caltrans crews began plowing through the snow that accumulated on the roadways during the closure.
According to the National Weather Service, over a quarter of an inch of rain which later turned into snow fell near Fort Tejon.
By 8 p.m. on Monday evening, CHP said all lanes on both Northbound and Southbound directions were open without any escorts.
CHP said they do not foresee any closures on the I-5 with this winter storm system. However, as temperatures drop in the overnight hours the possibility of black ice is a concern.
