BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — California State University, Bakersfield basketball teams are returning to campus Thursday morning following an announcement by the Western Athletic Conference that its tournament in Las Vegas has been canceled.

The decision was made in light of coronavirus, or COVID-19 concerns. No student athletes or other personnel at the tournament have tested positive for the virus, according to officials.

In consultation with Kern County Department of Public Health Services, CSUB’s Student Health Services, recommend that returning students and personnel monitor themselves over the next 14 days for any flu-like symptoms. The CSUB group is not considered to be at-risk because there are currently no COVID-19 cases.

According to the Western Athletic Conference, the conference’s automatic qualifiers to the 2020 NCAA Division I tournaments will be the regular season champions, which are New Mexico State for the men and University of Missouri-Kansas City for the women.
