United Way, Vineland School District bring socially distant Thanksgiving to South Kern

KERN COUNTY, Calif. — On Nov. 24, United Way of Kern County will be partnering with Vineland School District to serve 2,000 hot meals to the Lamont, Weedpatch, and Arvin communities for Thanksgiving, beginning at 3:30 p.m. and will be hosted at Sunset Middle School, 8301 Sunset Blvd.

The event will be a drive-thru style distribution where families will receive their meals and community resources.

The meals include Thanksgiving turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, dinner rolls, and dessert.

“We’re excited to have partnered with community-based organizations and businesses to help provide hot Thanksgiving meals to families in need during this time of angst and stress. With Vineland School District other partners include Cummins Construction, Dignity Health, Dollar General, Supervisor David Couch, Assemblyman Rudy Salas, Vallarta Supermarkets, Arvin Chamber of Commerce, O’Reilly Auto Parts, Lamont Chamber of Commerce, Self-Help Federal Credit Union, AmeriCorps and our dedicated volunteers,” said Mari Pérez-Dowling, president and CEO at UWKC.
