He talked with Scripps CMA Awards correspondent Carol Hughes about going through almost 100 songs before getting to the songs really wanted to write for his new project.

"I feel like if you are properly making a record you have to go searching," Hunter Hayes said. "For me, it takes 10 songs to get a lot of stuff out of my system before I write the one I really meant to write."

Hayes has been back out on the road doing some live performances this fall after taking a bit of a step back from the spotlight.

In September, he released three new tracks online from his new project. They included  “Amen,” “Yesterday’s Song” and “Young Blood”.
