Country music singer Tim McGraw paid tribute to one of the music industry's giants, Merle Haggard, before a recent show on his Soul2Soul tour.

McGraw posted the video of a cover of Merle Haggard's legendary single, "Mama Tried" which climbed the Billboard Hot Country charts to number one in 1968.

Fellow country singers Chris Janson and Mark Collie joined McGraw backstage for the cover. 

Haggard passed away in 2016 at the age of 79. 

McGraw is nominated for a CMA Award for Musical Event of the Year for "Speak To A Girl" with his wife and fellow country music superstar Faith Hill. 

The 51st annual CMA Awards air November 8 at 7 p.m. (CT) on ABC.
