Helping pet parents rebuild and fix fences

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Anyone with a dog will tell you that a sturdy fence is the only way to keep your dog safe. But fences can be expensive costing families hundreds of dollars, which is why the Bakersfield Pawsitive Connections created a Fix-It Crew.

The Fix-It Crew is dedicated to helping local pet parents repair or replace their fences, as long as it's on owned property. This team was created to help prevent dogs from escaping and getting lost or injured.

"I attended an advocate education meeting. A lot of the rescuers and advocates were talking about their problems with dogs running in the streets and going into the shelters. The source was typically the homeowners had issues with their fences, and they didn't have the means or ability to fix it," said Jacque Johnson, the founder of the Bakersfield Pawsitive Connections.

Volunteers of all ages and skills are welcome. Johnson said she is also looking for some experts who could share their time and knowledge.

If you are interested in donating materials or signing up to volunteer, you can reach the Bakersfield Pawsitive Connections Fix-It Crew on their facebook page.
