BAKERSFIELD, CA. — The Kern County Sheriff's Office warned people of a phone scam involving someone pretending to be from Sacred Heart Church.
According to KCSO, the suspect allegedly pretends to be a parishioner and asks for donations of gift cards for other church members who are sick or in need.
Sacred Heart Church officials said the suspect is not related to the church and is not authorized to ask for money or donation.
KCSO said if you are contacted by an organization asking for money, you should always reach out to the organization directly before donating.
Officials urge you to contact KCSO at (661) 861-3110 if you are a victim of this scam.
