BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Bakersfield is among the 25 worst cities for retirees, according to the a September report from WalletHub, which ranked the 182 largest US cities for their suitability for retirement.
The list ranks Bakersfield as the fifth worst city based on a score of 37.53 out of 100. The report said Bakersfield's low score was mainly due to its low ranking for activities (No. 177) and health care (No. 182 — the bottom of the list). The city does, however, rank within the top 100 for affordability (No. 92).
WalletHub scored each city on its list based on affordability, activities, quality of life, and available health care. The four categories were weighted equally, and each city was given a total score and then ranked, with the lowest overall score designating the worst city for retirees.
