ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Save Our Water is a statewide, water conservation program created in 2009 by the Association of California Water Agencies and the California Department of Water Resources. The program’s goal is to make water conservation a daily habit among Californians.

The 2023 rains brought a record amount of water to the state, but it will take more than a single wet year for California to fully recover from the three driest years ever recorded in state history.

Up to 60% of the water Californians use is outdoors - by cutting back on watering in the yard and planting local water-wise plants, residents can conserve water. Luckily there are water-wise landscapes to fit every style and budget.

Water Conservation Tips:

  • Up to 60% of the water Californians use is outdoors; so, if we cut back watering in the yard and plant local water-wise plants, we can conserve our precious water.
  • There are water-wise landscapes to fit every style and budget. There are thousands of water-wise plants to make a beautiful California landscape.
  • Water-wise yards and gardens can be diverse, functional, and beautiful spaces – without a large green lawn and thirsty flower beds. There’s variety to what California landscaping can look like. There are thousands of California native plants and many ways to create sustainable California landscaping.
  • These water-wise wonders are not only beautiful year-round but also a great resource for birds, bees, and butterflies. Using California native plants and water-wise flowers in your garden allows your landscaping to go from surviving to thriving.
