Pet safety amid cooler temperatures

As cooler weather continues to approach extra precautions should be taken to ensure your pet's well-being.

Cats can get frostbite and many will seek warmth by crawling into car engines so be sure to keep them inside and to check your vehicle for furry intruders.

Dogs should also be kept inside. If they must be kept outside they should have a draft-free shelter large enough to move around in but small enough to retain body heat with good bedding to insulate your pet against the cold.

"If it's too cold for you to be outside, it's probably too cold for your little buddies to be outside too," said pet owner Joey Richman.

And as always make sure your pets have fresh water.
