BAKERSFIELD, CA. — Bakersfield Police arrested a 23-year-old man who they said held his pregnant ex-girlfriend at gunpoint and made her take an unknown amount for pills to force a miscarriage.

Police identified the suspect as Jagmeet Sandhu who was arrested on Wednesday, December 12, 2019.

He was later booked into the Kern County Jail for several criminal charges including murder, domestic assault, and false imprisonment.

This alleged incident is a shocking display of domestic violence. Louis Gill with the Alliance Against Family Violence and Domestic Abuse explained some of the red flags that are often seen in abusive relationships.

"It will begin verbally. It will also be emotional and then it can be financial control, not letting them go to church or what not. There are a number ways people can be isolated," Gill said.

Gill said in some cases the abuse leads to violence. He urges people to look out for signs.

"If you have a family member or a friend that you are worried about or concerned, don't be afraid to ask if they are okay," Gill said.

You can call the Alliance's 24/7 emergency hotline at (661) 327-1091. They also have an emergency shelter if you need somewhere to stay.
