At-home test detects likelihood for breast cancer

Posted

A company called "Color" is offering a test that will tell people their likelihood for having breast cancer.

Taking a risk assessment online or through a primary care physician is a good way to get started in discovering a person's likelihood for having a mutation in one of the BRCA genes. BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes tell whether risk for breast or ovarian cancer is there.

Those at medium or high risk may consider purchasing the $99 in-home test kit. For the tests, users simply put saliva in a tube, shipping it off for testing.

It takes several weeks for test results to come in.

Once results are in, test-takers need to see their primary care physician next.
