LOS ANGELES (AP) — A grandfather has returned a pair of handcuffs he stole from a Los Angeles police officer 60 years ago.
The man, now 74 and living in Vista, says he took them as a teenager when they fell to the floor as an LAPD officer scuffled with someone at a restaurant.
The man says recently, when he showed the cuffs to his grandchildren and told the story, they were “aghast." So he's returned them, along with a $100 donation and an apology letter.
An LAPD tweet about the letter this week said “it’s never too late to do the right thing.”
