LOS ANGELES (AP) — A former Los Angeles police officer has been charged with extorting an ex-girlfriend over compromising photographs and attacking her outside a restaurant, prosecutors said.
Danny Lee Reedy allegedly threatened to release photos of the victim unless she returned gifts he had given her during their relationship, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.
After numerous alleged threats, Reedy eventually sent the photos to the victim and others, the statement said.
Reedy, 56, made an initial court appearance Thursday but his arraignment was continued to Feb. 6. It wasn't immediately known if he has an attorney.
Reedy allegedly hit the victim outside a restaurant in Glendora in 2018, according to prosecutors.
He is charged with one count each of extortion, extortion by threatening letter and injuring a girlfriend, and three misdemeanor counts of violating a domestic violence court order and possession of a firearm with a temporary restraining order, the statement said.
Reedy also faces charges that he violated court orders against possessing firearms, prosecutors said.
If convicted as charged, Reedy faces a possible maximum sentence of six years in state prison.
