MURRIETA, Calif. (AP) — Deputies fatally shot an armed man who fired at police after a car chase Thursday in Riverside County, authorities said.
The man, whose name was not released, led police on an hour-long chase from French Valley to Murrieta, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said on Facebook.
Authorities were initially called to French Valley by a report that a man appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol and was waving a gun. He drove away, leading to a chase that ended when an armored vehicle disabled his truck.
The man then fired at deputies and struck several police cars, the department said.
At least one deputy fired back and killed him, the department said. His name was not immediately released.
No deputies or bystanders were injured.
Murrieta is about 70 miles southeast of Los Angeles.
