One person dead after hit and run crash in South Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif — One person is dead after a hit and run crash in south Bakersfield Sunday evening.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department officers were dispatched to a traffic collision at the 1300 block of Chester Avenue. When they arrived they found an adult man that was struck by a sedan that was reported to be traveling southbound on Chester Avenue when the pedestrian was either pushing or riding the bicycle. The victim died at the scene.

The suspect vehicle is described as a dark blue, older model sedan with major front end damage.

B.P.D. is investigating the incident as a hit and run. They will be reviewing surveillance video in the area for additional info.

Traffic investigators have determined speed to be a factor in this collision. It is unknown whether or not alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.

Bakersfield Police report this is the 20 fatal motor vehicle collision this year within their jurisdiction.
