Kern County Public Works is offering options for recycling and composting your Christmas tree

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — If you haven't thought about how you plan to get rid of your Christmas tree, the Kern County Public Works Department is offering several options to recycle and compost your Christmas tree:

  • If you live in the metro-Bakersfield area, you can place Christmas trees into the green waste container. You must cut the Christmas tree into small pieces and completely close the container lid for the recycling facility to accept it.
  • Self-haul whole Christmas trees to one of the 23 drop-off locations throughout Kern County until January 10th.
  • Compost your tree at home by cutting up the tree and creating a compost pile.

Also, be sure to remove all ornaments, lights, and the tree stand before dropping off, recycling or composting your Christmas tree.

According to the Kern County Public Works Department, the location at Cal State University of Bakersfield is not available this year due to construction.
