5 Things You Didn't Know About Angry Birds

If you're looking for a reason to get the family out of the nest this weekend, how about The Angry Birds Movie! As these birds get ready peck their way into the multiplex, Donna Ruko has five things you didn't know about our furious flying feathered friends.

1.  Movie Based on Mobile Game

This isn't just some bird-brained amusement. Its 2009 launch has led to many versions for phones, computers, and even video game consoles.

2.  Most Downloaded Freemium Game

There have been more than three billion downloads, the most for any freemium game series ever. No wonder there's a movie! Though the characters in the movie aren't exactly like the ones in the game.

3.  The Birds Have Arms

That’s right; these Angry Birds have arms in the movie. We'd say that was a good call, though it doesn't make the main character any happier.

4.  Fighting Climate Change

The red bird went green and became an honorary U.N. Ambassador in March. He's been encouraging non-birds (meaning us), to help save the environment. See, they're sweet at heart!

5.  The Real Angry Birds

As angry as you think these birds are, they've got nothing on the real-life birds they're based on! Cassowaries are six feet tall, swim fast, run fast, have a helmeted skull, incredibly sharp toenails, and they're known to attack humans. Luckily, they're not native to the U.S. so we can sit back and watch their animated cousins mix it up onscreen.

That's five things you didn't know about The Angry Birds Movie!
