Emergency crews battled a fire at an apartment complex in Southwest Bakersfield Thursday evening.

The fire broke out just before 7 p.m. at the Village Lane Apartments in the area of S. Montclair St. and Lansing Dr., behind the Stockdale Fashion Plaza Shopping Center.

There was no immediate word on whether anyone was injured or what may have caused the blaze.

The Bakersfield Fire Department was investigating the incident.
