Car crash leaves one person, five calves dead on Garces Highway

CHP says one person is dead following a fatal accident on Garces Highway. 

The accident occurred near Garces Highway and Wildwood Road around 6:00 am this morning. A black pickup truck and a trailer carrying calves were involved in the accident.  The truck was carrying four passengers while the trailer was carrying two. One of the passengers in the black truck died in the accident. The three other passengers in the truck were transported to local hospitals in critical condition. 

The two people in the trailer were unharmed. There were 25 calves in trailer. Kern County Animal Control officers say five of them died in the accident. Three others were injured.

CHP is investigating this accident with Kern and Tulare counties. In addition, CHP says alcohol and seatbelts could possibly be factors in this crash.
