UPDATE (Nov. 21, 2016): The man killed in a early morning homicide has been identified as 40-year-old Enrique Suarez. He was assaulted by another with an unknown weapon and transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Officials are still looking at the cause and manor of death.

Update: An assault in East Bakersfield leaves one person dead earlier this morning. 

Bakersfield Police are investigating a deadly assault in East Bakersfield. BPD was dispatched at 4:51 am to the Triangle Liquor Store at East Truxtun and Sumner for reports of a man who was beaten and not breathing. 

Officers started CPR and the man was taken to a local hospital with major injuries. The man later died at the hospital. 

Police said the man was beaten with a blunt object. Traffic was shut down in the area of Brown Street which is just south of East Truxtun.
