BAKERSFIELD, CA. — The Bakersfield Commons has big plans to bring shopping, restaurants, office space and housing to northwest Bakersfield.

But, the project's development has not come to fruition after years of setbacks and delays.

Last year, officials with the project developer, Trammell Crow Company, told 23ABC they planned to break ground last summer. However, that did not happen.

Now, a new Adventist Health Hospital is set to be built across the street from the Bakersfield Commons.

Adventist Health Bakersfield's CEO Sharlet Briggs said the proposed hospital could help kick start development at the Commons.

"It makes sense doesn't it, that we are the anchor for that area, so things can come, and the rest of the Commons can take place," said Briggs.
