NEW MEXICO — An infant tested positive for the coronavirus Saturday, according to a New Mexico Department of Health press release.

The male infant tested positive in Bernalillo County, New Mexico and was among 13 other patients who contracted coronavirus in the state Saturday.

In the release, health officials did not confirm whether the infant contracted the disease in the womb or at some point during delivery and care.

The press release states New Mexico health officials have detected community spread.

"The agency reports that given the infectious nature of the virus it is likely other residents are infected but yet to be tested or confirmed positive," the release states.
