The California Office of Emergency Services is warning Californians about scams where people pretend to be a COVID-19 contact tracer.
A contact tracer will call you if you have been exposed to COVID-19 by telephone. But the office is warning everyone that a contract tracer will not ask for money or ask for banking or credit card information. They also will not ask for a social security number or immigration status. They also say do not clink or download anything from text messages from anyone claiming to be a tracer.
If you do get a call from anyone who seems suspicious you are asked to contact your local health department.
