Several cities are set to receive more than $1 million combined in grant money from the Department of Justice. The money is being allocated to cities and counties to help respond to public safety challenges due to COVID-19.

Kern County will receive more than $500,000. Additionally, Bakersfield is receiving more than $411,000. Delano will get a little more than $55,000, Arvin will receive more than $42,000 and Ridgecrest has been allocated to get more than $33,000.

Officials say the funds can be used for things such as buying personal protection equipment and addressing the medical needs of inmates.
