Another big spike in deaths due to COVID-19 in Kern County. During Thursday's briefing, the Kern County Public Health Department reported 7 new deaths, bringing the total to 105 as cases continue to grow as well.

Kern County Chief Administrative Officer Ryan Alsop said 1 percent of the local population who gets COVID-19 has died. The national COVID-19 death rate is 3 percent according to the CDC.

Public health also reported more than 150 new cases bringing the total to more than 7,000. More than 4,000 of those cases coming from the 18 to 49 age group.
