BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Some local kids are trying to spread positivity throughout the community with use of homemade signs.

The signs feature phrases like "Focus on the Good", "Smile", and "Have Faith". They were created by David Robertson and his kids.

Robertson said his kids came up with the idea. They hung the signs on the back wall of their home on Hageman Road. Along with the positive phrases, the kids hung a sign saying "use #PositiveBakersfield" to inspire residents to share their own positive message.

"The kids (16,13,9) just wanted to make a sign and hang it up to just show something positive to those passing by," Robertson told 23ABC. "They’re pretty smart and know that there’s more negativity than positivity in the news right now."

The kids make new signs every day and hang them up. They waive at passing cars hoping drivers will honk back.

"Weather permitting we will keep making new signs and putting them out there for a while and maybe reusing some. They get excited to here social media comments about it and people honking and waving."
