DELANO, Calif. — More than 4,000 prepared meals will be distributed to farm worker families suffering during the COVID-19 crisis Wednesday from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. at the “Forty Acres” in Delano.

The meals have been prepared by local restaurants and it is the fifth such effort by the UFW Foundation and World Central Kitchen in coordination with the United Farm Workers and Cesar Chavez Foundation that is also taking place in other California farm worker communities. 13,000 meals have been provided since the start of the partnership in April.

The meals, handed to motorists as their cars drive by at the farm worker movement’s Forty Acres property, are being prepared by local restaurants. Plans are to provide the prepared meals at least once a week in Delano and in each of the farm worker communities served through this partnership. People are being notified of the food distribution through the Cesar Chavez Foundation radio networks, La Campesina and Forge. Campesina radio will broadcast live from booths set up on the Forty Acres.

Since its founding, World Central Kitchen has served more than 17 million meals to those impacted by natural disasters and other crises around the world, including the coronavirus global pandemic.
