Rumors are circulating on social media that you'll have to pay back some or all of the stimulus check on your next tax return. The IRS says that's not true.
An IRS spokesman says relief checks will have no bearing on your income deductions for 2020.
The online confusion seems to be stemming from the language used in the rescue bill. It refers to the checks as "advanced refunds." But the U.S. Treasury Department also reassures that's not what was meant by the term. They say there is no obligation to pay back the money.
