The number of new positive cases being added in the county continues to be low.

Health officials added only 23 new cases to the dashboard Tuesday morning. Those numbers have seen quite a decrease over the past few days with less than 120 new cases reported over the three-day weekend. The local total is now just over 30,200.

No new deaths reported today. That total stands at 296. And just over 13,300 people have recovered.

Public health officials said the decrease in the number of new cases is promising but they are still waiting to see what impacts if any the Labor Day weekend might have.

"It's unknown the impact that Labor Day could have on our case rates. We could see a spike if people did gather and did not follow those mitigation measures we continue to discuss. And if people did follow those measures, then we may see our numbers continue to decrease," explained Brynn Carrigan, assistant director of Kern County Public Health.
