WASHINGTON — Self employed, Gig workers and part-time workers will now be able to file for unemployment benefits. That includes the additional $600 a week made available for through the CARES Act.

The Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program is apart of the CARES act for those who do not usually qualify for state unemployment insurance who have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

The program provides up to 39 weeks of benefits starting February 2nd until December 26 2020.
The benefits depends on when the individual became directly impacted by the pandemic.

To be eligible for PUA benefits the person must not be eligible for unemployment insurance in the state of California or any other state. People who are eligible for disibility insurance or paid family leave are also not eligible.

Benefits can be applied for on the California state website.
