BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Greenlawn Cemeteries is planning to honor forgotten soldiers on Memorial Day on Monday by placing new grave markers for those soldiers, calling it "Operation Headstone".

The cemetery along with local veteran from VFW Post 97 and Kern County Veterans Service Department will walk around the grounds to identify unmarked graves of service members as well as placing new headstones in their honor in lieu of traditional Memorial Day events.

Jim LaMar, president of Greenlawn Funeral Homes and Cemeteries, has stated that “No veteran who served this country should be forgotten,” and decided Greenlawn will cover any fees connected with ordering and installing gravestones for deceased veterans who currently are without a marker.

The event will take place at the Greenlawn Northeast cemetery at 3700 River Blvd., Bakersfield, CA beginning on May 25 at 10 a.m.
