Accused kidnapper released from hospital and booked into jail

The man accused of kidnapping and assaulting a woman before being hit by the car of a good Samaritan last week has been released from the hospital and booked into jail.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The man accused of kidnapping and assaulting a woman before being hit by the car of a good Samaritan last week has been released from the hospital and booked into Lerdo jail.

21-year-old Fabian Prieto was hospitalized after, according to police, he was struck by a good Samaritan's car.

Prieto is accused of kidnapping, spousal abuse and assault with a firearm on a person.

Police say on Dec. 18, Prieto assaulted the woman and forced her from an apartment complex in East Bakersfield. He then, according to police, drove her to to the area of Highway 178 and Morning Drive.

A concerned citizen saw the victim struggling inside the vehicle and decided to intervene. That's when Prieto got out of the vehicle and pointed the gun at the good Samaritan.

The good Samaritan was able to disarm Prieto by hitting Prieto with his car.

Once Prieto was down, the good Samaritan called police.

Prieto is being held on $775,000 bail. His first court appearance is Thursday.
