BPD: Attempted robbery during drug deal lead to Valley Plaza Mall parking lot shooting

UPDATE (8 AM): The Bakersfield Police Department said an investigation found a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man tried to commit a strong-armed robbery of a 15-year-old boy and another unidentified person Monday night during a drug deal that lead to a shooting at a parking structure at Valley Plaza Mall.

The unidentified person pulled out a firearm and starting shooting hitting the other three people, according to BPD. All of the people shot are expected to survive and were being treated at a local hospital, said BPD. BPD said they're trying to find the unidentifed gunman who fled after the shooting.

Dejion Swisher, 18, of Bakersfield, was arrested on suspicion of robbery and child endangerment. A criminal petition on suspicion of robbery will be placed against the 17-year-old boy after his treatment for his injury.

The Bakersfield Police Department reports a shooting in the parking lot outside of Valley Plaza Mall.

Officers found two people with injuries from the alleged shooting. They have both been sent to local hospitals.
