BPD: Two injured in Downtown Bakersfield car-to-car shooting

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) — UPDATE: The Bakersfield Police Department said two people were injured in a car-to-car shooting Tuesday afternoon in Downtown Bakersfield.

BPD said officers responded to reports of a shooting shortly after 12:30 p.m. Officers found multiple bullet casings in the roadway, according to BPD.

Traffic was affected while officers investigated the shooting.

A woman and a 15-year-old boy were taken to a hospital with gunshot injuries and are in stable condition, said BPD.

A preliminary investigation determined that the victims were shot while in their vehicle by suspects firing gunshots from a separate moving vehicle, said police. Police said the 15-yea-old boy appears to have been targeted by the suspects.

Police said the investigation in its preliminary stages and no public suspect information is available at this time.

The Bakersfield Police Department tweeted that officers are investigating a shooting Tuesday afternoon in the area of 17th and Q streets.

BPD says traffic will be affected and to avoid the area.
