BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) — The Bakersfield Police Department said a man was killed in a shooting Wednesday in southeast Bakersfield.

A man was found with a gun shot wound at about 9:31 a.m. Wednesday in the 3900 block of Soranno Avenue, according to BPD. He was declared dead at the scene. Authorities later identified Derek Deon Henry Jr., 30, of Bakersfield, as the man killed.

BPD reported that Ethan Jermaine Smith, 20, of Bakersfield, was arrested at about 3:21 a.m. Thursday on suspicion of murder in connection with the man's death.

The investigation is ongoing.
