Bakersfield Police Department arrests attempted rape suspect

UPDATE: The Bakersfield Police have arrested 25-year-old Byron Willis for an attempted rape in Southwest Bakersfield.

He is due in court tomorrow.


UPDATE: The suspect has been identified as 25-year-old Byron Willis. He is described as 5 foot 9 inches tall, weighing 203 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

The Bakersfield Police Department is asking the community for help identifying a suspect in an attempted rape.

He is described as a Black man, between the ages of 25-30 years old, and has a dark complexion and a slim build, approximately 150-160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black hooded zippered sweatshirt, dark gray socks, and is possibly homeless.

BPD said the at 11:20 Tuesday morning, the suspect attempted to rape the victim in a vacant apartment on Ming Avenue and New Stine Road in Southwest Bakersfield.

The victim was able to fight off the suspect who then fled on foot.
