KCSO arrests two suspects for gun charges, drug-related charges

KERN COUNTY, Calif. — On Monday morning, Kern County Sheriff's Deputies assigned to the Kern Valley Substation were told of a vehicle chasing another vehicle near Highway 178 and Borel Road over a possible "road rage" incident.

The occupants of the pursuing vehicle were reported to be in possession of a firearm, pointing it at the first vehicle.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle and detained the two occupants.

The driver was identified as 21-year-old Jacob Smith of Lake Isabella, and the passenger was identified as 25-year-old Brycen Broome of Lake Isabella.

After a search of the vehicle, deputies located a loaded firearm, cocaine, hydrocodone, and Xanax pills.

Smith was arrested for possessing a controlled substance, possessing a controlled substance without a prescription, possessing a controlled substance while armed, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, conspiracy and exhibiting a firearm at an occupant of a vehicle.

Broome was arrested for carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, conspiracy and exhibiting a firearm at an occupant of a vehicle.

Smith and Broome were booked into the Central Receiving Facility.
