Kern County man charged with firearms, fraud, identity theft offenses

FRESNO, Calif. — A Kern County man could serve prison time for firearm, fraud and identity theft charges.

According to the indictment released on Tuesday, between November 2018 and September 2019, 34-year-old Rogelio Benavides took mail that included checks and checkbooks belonging to other people.

On June 18, Benavides was charged on 19 counts of theft, firearm and fraud crimes.

If convicted, Benavides could go to prison and have to pay fees of at least $250,000 to $1 million.
