LANCASTER, Calif. — A former Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy who falsely claimed that he was shot at by a sniper is now facing criminal charges.

Last August Angel Raul Reinosa reported being shot at by a sniper in the parking lot of the Lancaster station. After an investigation, officials determined the shooting had been fabricated.

The LA District Attorney's Office announced charges of filing a false police report and two felony counts of insurance fraud have been filed against Reinosa.

Sheriff's investigators arrested Reinosa on Thursday after a traffic stop in Sylmar and he was booked at the county jail.
