BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) — The man shot by Bakersfield police officers following an alleged carjacking Wednesday night has been identified as 30-year-old Juan Ramirez III.

According to BPD, Ramirez remains in custody at an area hospital and will be booked into the Kern County Jail once medically cleared.

The Bakersfield Police Department says officers shot a man, following a pursuit and attempted carjacking Wednesday night.

According to BPD, officers were involved in a pursuit after they attempted to pull over a car.

Police say during the pursuit, "the suspect was driving in a reckless manner, endangering the lives of officers and other drivers."

BPD says at one point the suspect got out of the vehicle and was forcibly trying to take another person's vehicle.

At that point police opened fire, hitting the suspect. He suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police recovered a gun at the scene.

Police say the vehicle the suspect was driving was stolen.

No officers were injured.
