Lemoore man charged with felony rape, detectives looking for other possible victims

LAKESHORE, Calif. — A Lemoore man has been charged with one count felony rape after attacking a woman in her hotel room in Lakeshore. Now detectives are looking for other possible victims.

According to the Fresno County Sheriff's Office, 39-year-old John Burton is accused of breaking into a woman's hotel room at China Peak Mountain Resort in Lakeshore and sexually assaulting her.

Detectives said on Feb. 17, Burton learned the woman was staying alone at the hotel. Employees became aware of the attack and contacted the Sheriff’s Office on behalf of the victim.

Burton was arrested and booked into Fresno County Jail with a bail of $50,000. He posted bond and was released on Feb. 19.

Burton is an active duty military member who is stationed at Naval Air Station (NAS) Lemoore.
