BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Bakersfield Police Department arrested a man after he tried to hide from officers in the attic space of a local business.
According to the BPD, officers were dispatched to the TJ Maxx store on Ming Ave after receiving a burglar alarm. When they arrived, the spotted a suspect exiting the back of the business. When the suspect saw the officers he fled back into the building and attempted to hide in the store's attic space.
The suspect, 38-year-old Gildardo Hernandez, refused to come down for several hours, despite nearly falling through the ceiling several times as he searched for an escape route. Officers eventually convinced Hernandez to come down and he was arrested without incident.
Hernandez was arrested for burglary and resisting arrest. He was also found to have an outstanding warrant in Delano for robbery and conspiracy.
