BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Court documents obtained by 23ABC show 32-year-old Evaristo Perez Nunez drove through a stop sign and an open bottle of liquor was found in his vehicle after crash that killed a 9-year-old boy.
Nunez crashed into a vehicle in the area of Cottonwood and East Pacheco Roads on Tuesday morning.
Four children were hurt and 9-year-old Emiliano Hernandez died as a result of his injuries.
Nunez took off but was later arrested.
Documents show that, according to the Department of Motor Vehicles, Nunez had no issued license.
According to the documents, he also had an open container of liquor on the driver's side of the vehicle.
Nunez stated that the vehicle was stolen.
Nunez is set to be back in court Jan. 22.
