The Bakersfield Police Department broke up an illegal marijuana growing operation on the city's east side.

According to the BPD, on Tuesday at around 9 a.m. officers executed search warrants in the 400 and 500 blocks of Workman Street and seized over 500 marijuana plants.

Ten people were arrested for illegal marijuana cultivation: Thalia Sanchez (age 24), Manuela Gutierrez-Ortega (age 33), Michael Corralez (age 21), Cesar Avalos (age 46), Esther Chavez (age 43), Raquel Sanchez (age 52), Fernando Lemus (age 37), Cynthia Chavez (age 20), Ramona Macias (age 51) and Luis Lopez (age 23).
