Kern County Sheriff's Office identifies man killed in Central Bakersfield shooting

UPDATE (4:30 PM): The Kern County Sheriff's Office has identified the man who was shot and killed as 78-year-old Joe Salazar Estrada.


UPDATE (6:30 AM): The Bakersfield Police Department said one man has been arrested in a Thursday night shooting that killed one man and injured another in Central Bakersfield.

Police said the incident happened shortly 7 p.m. in the 200 block of Myrtle Street, near Bank Street, when BPD received reports of a man who had been shot. Officers found a man who had been shot and he was declared dead at the scene, said BPD.

Another person was taken to a hospital with a minor gunshot wound and is in stable condition, according to BPD. Police said officers found a firearm at the scene of the shooting.

Dan Michael Ryan III, 24, of Bakersfield, was arrested on suspicion of murder, attempted murder, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, two men were shot on Myrtle Street.

One man died on the scene, and another was taken to the hospital where they’re in stable condition.
