Two men arrested for stealing catalytic converters

Two men were arrested in Bakersfield for attempting to steal catalytic converters from vehicles.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, officers responded to the 4700 block of New Horizon Boulevard regarding a theft in progress. A witness reported seeing two suspects underneath a vehicle, possibly attempting to steal the catalytic converter.

When officers arrived the two suspects attempted to flee but were later taken into custody.

The two suspects, 28-year-old Juan Antonio Contreras Jr., and 30-year-old Ezekiel Zechariah Barrientes, were found to be in possession of stolen catalytic converters and tools to remove them. They were arrested for grand theft, looting, conspiracy, and resisting arrest.
