BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Bakersfield Police Department arrested a 40-year-old woman after she struck a motorcyclist on Coffee Road and then fled the scene.

According to the BPD, a white SUV traveling northbound on Coffee Road on Tuesday night "made an unsafe lane change" and collided with a motorcycle. The motorcyclist was transported to the hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

Officers responding to the scene found the SUV abandoned nearby. After a search of the area, the driver was located hiding in a nearby restaurant. The driver, 40-year-old Trumonikia Fields-Johnson was arrested for hit-and-run and driving on a suspended license.

BPD stated that it did not appear that alcohol, drugs nor speed were a factor in the accident.
