RIDGECREST, Calif. — Brandy Nyssa Clair, 33, was arrested Saturday morning in Ridgecrest for driving while under the influence of alcohol and fleeing the scene after hitting a bicyclist, according to Ridgecrest Police.
A preliminary alcohol screening test showed Clair's blood alcohol content was more than double the legal limit when she hit the bicyclist, according to Ridgecrest Police.
A Ridgecrest Police officer said he was on patrol in the area of W. Wilson Avenue when he saw a red Chrysler minivan driving westbound, drift towards the edge and hit the bicyclist. The officer said he then pursued the minivan after it fled the scene.
The officer said he was able to stop the minivan as it pulled into a driveway on W. Haloid Avenue. The driver, Clair, smelled of alcohol and failed a field sobriety test, according to Ridgecrest Police.
Clair was arrested and booked into the Ridgecrest Police Department.
The bicyclist sustained minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
